About “Pastel Twilight”
Several people have told me this photograph looks like a video game. In particular, it reminds them of a type of video game known as a platformer[1], in which your in-game character has to run around a scene avoiding obstacles. The first platform game I remember playing was Donkey Kong[2], though I suspect they are thinking more along the lines of Rampage[3]. The green-roofed building is Schapiro CEPSR[4], at the northeast corner of the central campus of Columbia University[5], roughly 3/4 mile to my north. The sliver of dome just in front/beneath it is Low Library[6]. The spire in the foreground is P.S. 165, the first ‘H-plan’ school designed by architect C. B. J. Snyder[7].
About the project: Being a Ghost by Scott Matthews is an interactive set of twenty-seven overlapping photographs taken from a single vantage in New York City between 2011 and 2016. Prints are available as interactive sets.
