About “Misty Gotham Night”
Most of this neighborhood dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s. To me, it has a strong Gotham[1] vibe, which was perfectly complemented by the strange misty light this particular evening. At lower-right is Church of the Ascension; it appears an event is taking place in the alley behind it. The ornate building at upper-center-left is P.S. 165, the first ‘H-plan’ school designed by architect C. B. J. Snyder[2]. The hulking mass at distant-far-right is the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine[3] with Archangel Gabriel[4] jutting up from the roof.
About the project: Being a Ghost by Scott Matthews is an interactive set of twenty-seven overlapping photographs taken from a single vantage in New York City between 2011 and 2016. Prints are available as interactive sets.
