About “Rooftop Embrace”
There had been a large group assembled on the roof, this couple lingered just a moment after the rest had left. I like the contrast of the embrace set against the graffiti[1]-marked rooftops of the tenements[2]. If you compare the graffiti here to “West Side Story (Intermission)” you can figure out which photo was shot first (hint: don’t be fooled by “BAM”). The rooftops of New York City teem with unexpected life, other examples in this set: “Mother Mary is My Line Judge,” “Teen with Toy Gun on Roof,” and “Rooftop Venus.”
About the project: Being a Ghost by Scott Matthews is an interactive set of twenty-seven overlapping photographs taken from a single vantage in New York City between 2011 and 2016. Prints are available as interactive sets.
